The Bureau of Human Rights and Justice (BHRJ) strongly condemns the brutal killing and burning of Dipu Das, a young Hindu man, on the night of 18 December 2025 in Valuka, Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Dipu Chandra Das was brutally lynched by Islamists in Bangladesh over alleged blasphemy. After killing him, his body was hung from a tree and set on fire. This horrifying incident exposes the brutal reality of what happens when Islamic extremism goes unchecked and minorities are stripped of protection. On 19 December 2025, another young Hindu named Gopal Biswas was attacked by Islamist militants under the false pretext of insulting Islam in Jinaidah, Bangladesh. He is currently in critical condition.

This horrific act of violence, allegedly carried out by religious extremists following a false and unverified allegation of insulting Islam, represents a grave violation of fundamental human rights, including the right to life, freedom of belief, and due process of law. Mob violence under the pretext of religious sentiment is unacceptable in any civilized society.

BHRJ expresses deep concern over the repeated misuse of blasphemy allegations to justify violence against religious minorities in Bangladesh. The failure to prevent such attacks and to hold perpetrators accountable fosters a culture of fear, injustice, and impunity.

BHRJ Demands:

  1. An immediate, impartial, and transparent investigation into the killing of Dipu Das
  2. Arrest and persecution of all perpetrators, instigators, and accomplices under the law
  3. Protection and security for religious minorities and vulnerable communities
  4. Strong legal action against false allegations and incitement to violence
  5. Adequate compensation and justice for the victim’s family

Dipan Mitra, President of BHRJ, calls upon the Government of Bangladesh, national human rights institutions, and the international community to take urgent notice of this atrocity and ensure that justice is served without delay.
