The family of 1971 martyr Probodh Kumar Mitra has been attacked. Members of the minority Hindu martyr’s family in Dhakuaria village of Monirampur Police Station, Jessore district, are now suffering from extreme insecurity. Probodh Kumar Mitra was the pioneer of education in that area and in the entire police station. He not only established a school on his own initiative. He was a trailblazer in spreading the light of education and promoting people’s socio-economic development in the area. By a cruel twist of fate, his family is now utterly helpless.
Local terrorists have long been trying to seize their ancestral property. They even filed a false lawsuit in court, though they lost. On March 30, 2026, local terrorists Mofizur Rahman and Hamida Begum, along with their henchmen, attacked Probodh Kumar Mitra’s sons Ajay Mitra and Asim Mitra, as well as his daughter-in-law Rita Mitra, repeatedly striking them with iron rods and sticks in an attempt to seize their property. When neighbors rushed over at their screams, the terrorists fled. In the attack, Ajay Mitra was seriously injured. He was admitted to the hospital. As they left, the terrorists threatened that Probodh Kumar Mitra’s sons and the entire family must flee the country within 7 days. If they do not, they will be killed and their homes will be burned down.
Since the incident, they have been living in extreme fear for their lives. They have made an appeal to the government to provide them with protection and ensure the perpetrators receive exemplary punishment.
