Tangail, Bangladesh — Tension has gripped two Hindu communities in Tangail’s Ghatail upazila after idols were vandalised at two separate temples.
The incidents were reported in Najunbag village under Dighar Union and Bade Bailtail village under Dighalkandi Union. At the Najunbag Sarbojanin Hari Temple, idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati were damaged. At the Sri Sri Kali Temple in Bade Bailtail, idols of Goddess Kali and Goddess Shitala were also found vandalised.
Local residents discovered the damage on the morning of August 3, 2026, and informed police. Officers visited both temples and began looking into how the incidents happened.
Ghatail Police Station Officer-in-Charge Moksedur Rahman said police had started an investigation even though the temple committees had not filed a formal complaint at that point. No suspect had been identified at the time of the report.
The incidents have left local Hindu residents concerned and unsettled, particularly because two temples in separate villages were affected around the same time.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine who was responsible and what may have motivated the vandalism. No conclusion about the perpetrators or their motive has been established so far.
