At least 14 homes belonging to members of Bangladesh’s Hindu minority were damaged in Rangpur district, according to Human Rights Watch (HRW).
The incidents reportedly took place on July 26 and 27, when a mob attacked homes belonging to members of the Hindu community, according to HRW’s World Report 2026.
The report places the incident among wider concerns over violence affecting religious and ethnic minority communities in Bangladesh. HRW also documented reports of continuing violations against minority communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
For the families whose homes were damaged, the incident meant more than property loss. Damage to a home can leave families facing fear, uncertainty and concerns about their safety and security.
The Rangpur incident has also drawn attention to the need for effective protection of minority communities and proper investigation when attacks take place.
Human Rights Watch has documented the incident as part of its broader assessment of human rights conditions in Bangladesh. The report does not, by itself, establish the identity or legal responsibility of those involved; those matters require investigation by the relevant authorities.
