Dinajpur, Bangladesh — Six members of a Hindu family were injured following a confrontation over a long-running land dispute in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur, according to local reports.

The incident reportedly took place on August 3, 2026, in Muchibari Sarkarpara village under Satgram Union. A dispute over the ownership and possession of a piece of land reportedly escalated into a confrontation between the two sides, leaving six members of the Ray family injured.

The injured were identified as Laxman Ray, Shukru Ray, Prafulla Ray, Harish Ray, Kamala Ray and Badhubala Ray. They were taken to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for treatment. Some of the injured were reportedly in serious condition.

The disagreement over the land had continued for some time and had also become a legal dispute. According to the report, the Additional District Magistrate’s Court in Dinajpur had recently issued a decision in favour of Laxman Ray. Tensions reportedly grew after the opposing side challenged the family’s claim to the property.

Both sides have made competing claims over the land. The Ray family says they are the rightful owners, while the other side reportedly maintains that the property was legally purchased by them. The ownership issue remains a matter for the relevant legal authorities to determine.

For the Ray family, what began as a dispute over property has now resulted in six family members needing medical treatment. The incident has also caused concern in the local community about how a long-running land disagreement can escalate into physical violence.

While the victims are members of a Hindu family, the available reports identify the land dispute as the immediate context of the confrontation and do not independently establish that the violence was motivated by their religious identity. Further investigation would be needed to establish exactly what happened and determine responsibility.
