Expressing deep distress and outrage over a string of recent attacks, thefts, and violence targeting places of worship across Bangladesh, civic activist Pritam Paul has raised sharp questions about the overall law and order situation and the safety of religious minorities.
In a recent public statement, Paul highlighted several troubling incidents from different parts of the country. He pointed to the theft of a valuable 20 kg touchstone (Kashti Pathar) idol along with gold and silver ornaments from a Kali temple in Faridpur.
He also referenced the desecration of a Durga idol in Rajbari, as well as grave allegations from Bauphal, Patuakhali, where a local BNP leader allegedly attempted to burn a Hindu man alive.
Reflecting on the recurring incidents of temple break-ins and violence nationwide, Paul challenged official narratives regarding minority well-being. He questioned how authorities can claim that minority communities are safe and doing well when such incidents continue to take place.
Emphasizing the need for accountability, he urged the administration to take immediate and concrete steps to safeguard religious sites and restore a sense of security among minority citizens.
